These factors are the results of the first trimester ultrasound (<strong>neck folds, nasal bone<\/strong> and <strong>blood flow<\/strong> measurements), a <strong>maternal blood test<\/strong> and the age of the pregnant woman. In the blood test, we measure the serum concentration of fbhCG, PAPP-A and &#8211; like only a few institutes in Austria do &#8211; also the <strong>placental growth factor (Plgf)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>During the first quarter ultrasound exam, an early <strong>examination of the fetal anatomy<\/strong> is also performed to rule out possible severe malformations.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the combined test, we also clarify the <strong>likelihood of pre-eclampsia<\/strong> (alternative name for pregnancy poisoning). This can lead to premature birth and pregnancy complications. The main symptoms of pre-eclampsia are high blood pressure and protein excretion in the urine. To determine risk, the expectant mother&#8217;s blood pressure, placental blood flow, and biomarkers in the maternal blood are checked.
