This makes it a completely <strong>risk-free alternative to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.praenatalzentrum.wien\/en\/services\/placenta-puncture-chorionic-villus-biopsy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">chorionic villus sampling<\/a> as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.praenatalzentrum.wien\/en\/services\/amniocentesis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">amniocentesis<\/a><\/strong><strong>\u00a0for both mother and child.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>NIPT involves examining the mother&#8217;s blood, which also contains the baby&#8217;s DNA. With an analysis of these fragments of the foetal genome, the <strong>risk of a genetic change<\/strong> in the unborn child is determined. The results provide information with a high <strong>reliability of more than 99 percent<\/strong> as to whether Down syndrome (trisomy 21) is present. The detection rate is 92 percent for trisomy 13 (P\u00e4tau syndrome), and 96 percent for trisomy 18 (Edwards syndrome). The high precision of the NIPT significantly reduces the likelihood that further investigation by invasive procedures will be recommended due to a false positive result. The false positive rate is less than 0.1 percent.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NIPT Extended<\/strong> examines for trisomies 21, 18, 13, triploidy, sex chromosome disorders (Turner, Klinefelter, double-Y, triplo-X) and five microdeletions (22q11, 1p36, Cri-du-Chat, Angelman, Prader-Willi). False positive rates and detection rates vary depending on the disease.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The NIPT is recommended in combination with the first trimester ultrasound examination including preeclampsia screening.<\/strong>\u00a0With this early screening examination, up to 65 percent of malformations that do not have a direct genetic cause can be discovered or ruled out. These cannot be detected with the NIPT.<\/p>\n<p>The non-invasive prenatal test is also offered as a 2-part examination. It can be performed <strong>from the 11th <\/strong>week of <strong>pregnancy<\/strong> and usually means <strong>an early all-clear<\/strong> for parents.
